AI is reshaping hiring and candidate engagement. As organizations adopt AI to scale recruitment, they are also facing new challenges, from increasingly sophisticated resume optimization to AI-assisted interview responses and identity verification concerns.
To better understand how employers are adapting and the safeguards they're putting in place, Jobma conducted an industry survey that unveiled important insights.
The survey points to a hiring market shaped by three intertwined imperatives: quality, candidate experience, and hiring integrity.
reported suspected or confirmed hiring fraud
identified resume misrepresentation as a concern
only 12.5% said their current hiring tools are fully equipped to prevent fraud
Hiring fraud is no longer limited to inflated experience or fabricated credentials. 87.5% of respondents identified resume misrepresentation as a concern, while 50% cited AI-assisted cheating and proxy interviews. This points to the concern that proxy interviews, AI-assisted answers, identity manipulation, and deepfakes are changing how candidate authenticity may be compromised.
Interview fraud is becoming a concern for hiring teams. Our survey found that most respondents had encountered suspected or confirmed fraud in the past year. 75% reported suspected or confirmed hiring fraud within the past 12 months, pointing to a shift from theoretical risk to real-world exposure.
The hiring industry has entered what is increasingly being described as an AI-versus-AI era: a continuous cycle in which advances in fraud tactics are met by advances in detection and verification technologies. Our survey suggests that organizations are still finding their footing in that cycle.
See how stronger candidate authenticity checks can change hiring outcomes in practice. We featured real-world cases that saw up to a 100% reduction in interviews scheduled with fraudulent candidates.
