This position is NonExempt. Hours over 40 will be paid at Time and a Half. BS in Medical Technology (ASCP) certified. 2-5 years experience in following standard diagnostic testing procedures. Conducts chemical analyses of body fluids such as blood, urine, and spinal fluid, to determine presence of normal and abnormal components. Studies blood cells, their numbers and morphology. Performs blood group, type and compatibility tests for transfusion purposes. Analyzes test results and enters findings in computer. Performs quality control studies to ensure accuracy of clinical data. Engages in medical research under direction of Chief Medical Technologist. Performs routine preventative maintenance of assigned instruments and equipment according to established schedule and procedure. Verifies instrument functioning by checking and calibrating specific lab instruments and documents data. Records on instrument logs any repairs, replacement and maintenance needed of equipment.Specimen Bank Specialist Role:Conducts chemical analyses of body fluids such as blood, urine, and spinal fluid, to determine presence of normal and abnormal components. Knowledge of laboratory environment; laboratory techniques; and safety practices.Interacts with third party vendors and other sources as appropriate. Maintains inventories; including transfers. Prepares orders and shipments. Performs safety walk-throughs to ensure integrity of assets. Requires basic laboratory skills and safety practices. Performs daily activities; plans and executes assigned tasks with minimal supervision. Schedules own activities; budgets own time; and functions with a high degree of independence. Knowledge of overall operation of the department in areas such as; laboratory and office procedures; accounting/billing; ordering of specimens and supplies; and regulatory/compliance requirements as related to the Specimen Bank or Clinical Services activities.Good communication, interpersonal, and team skills. Attention to detail. Computer fluency in word processing and spreadsheets. Good working knowledge of personal computer software programs in Windows environment. Knowledge of Microsoft Clipboard, Excel, Symphony or SAP software highly desired. An understanding of the clinical laboratory, the serology and disease processes desirable. Must demonstrate strong problem solving and analytical skills and be a team player. Must possess a BS in molecular biology, biochemistry, or related field with at least one to two years of relevant experience. Knowledge of GMP, ISO, and FDA regulations and audits a plus. Familiar with process and test method validations. Excellent communication skills. Shall be able to perform under pressure to meet project deadlines.
